In case you’ve forgotten, it’s Father’s Day on 17th June and as dads certainly deserve to be spoilt on their special day, why not make yours a gift this year? Something handcrafted will make a change from boxes of chocolates or bottles of beer!
As Father’s Day falls in the middle of summer it’s not exactly the time to be knitting or crocheting woolly hats or gloves, so maybe you could make something that’s a bit of fun. Have you got your hands on the Garden Special issue yet? Well, when you do, you’ll find a fantastic kit with all you need to knit three cute and crazy little cacti – complete with their own flower pots. These are a great gift for anyone and will make the perfect desk accessory for any office-bound dad – sure to brighten up his day! And if you want something smaller, why not try the Caterpillar Bookmark in issue 24?
If you’d like to make something a bit more practical, then why not have a go at the Mug Hugs in issue 13? You could make him just one or go for the full set of four so your dad can mix and match his coffee-cup covers! And if he likes a boiled egg of a morning then you could make him one of the Bobble-hat Egg Cosies from issue 21 – a jolly addition to anyone’s breakfast.
Alternatively, why not adapt the Laptop Case from issue 5 by using a darker shade of yarn? The pattern uses creacrafts Impasto and this comes in a shade of grey – Dunite – and a shade of taupe – Pebble – that might be more suitable for a dad. And you can change the buttons to something with a more masculine feel. Whatever you choose, your dad’s sure to know it’s made with love!
